"Jonel" of a "Botak" kid

Arrived back home and Ababe Jr asked me if he can buy a “jonel” (journal). He says he wants to start writing a diary. This is after he has watched The Diary of a Wimpy Kid dvd. He already has 4 of the books but he has never thought about starting his own journal until he watched the said movie.

Rummaging through his cupboard he found an old Ben 10 notebook. He asked me if he could use that as a journal and of course I allowed. He immediately started writing and drawing on the inside cover of the journal. His name, a pirate flag, “no wan can touch this” etc.

Then he started writing on each page the date, draw a picture and write a caption or story underneath it. But because he thought his drawings were not good enough, he asked my assistance! My drawing is much worse!

Anyway, the next morning he drew Moron. Called me up on my way to work to inform me of this and then sent me an mms of MORON…

Guess his “jonel” is not a secret after all…

A tribute to Steve Jobs - Job well done (1955 - 2011)

(I am not an Apple user but I find Steve Jobs an inspirational man, thus this tribute.. RIP to the man who shared with the world his bitten apple...)

5 October 2011 Apple Inc released the iPhone 4S which disappointed many as people were expecting the release of the iPhone 5!

6 October 2011 the world was shocked again by the news of the death of Steve Jobs...

May he rest in peace after a legendary legacy that he has left behind. Below are just 2 of many statements made by the man himself which should become an inspiration to us all...

I was having a beautiful Sunday breakfast with Ababe Jr when I received a message from my sister informing me that Ababe Jr's cousin has lice and he has spread it to his brothers! As they were all playing together the day before, I peeked Ababe Jr's hair and lo and behold there were eggs stuck to his hair!

Waited for Mr Ababe to pick us up and immediately went to the barber shop and got his hair cropped real short.. Ababe Jr was very happy as he really wanted the almost bald hair Rooney style! Even the barber didn't charge us as we had just gotten his hair cut 4 days back.

And that's the story behind Ababe Jr's short cropped hair... Thank GOD the eggs disappeared...

Celebrating Malaysia Day and Mr Ababe's Birthday!







Happy 38th Birthday Mr Ababe!

For the past 2 years, Malaysia has declared that 16 September is a Malaysia Day and is now a Public Holiday. Lo and behold the date is the same as Mr Ababe's birthdate! Thus for the past 2 years we have been celebrating his birthday...

This year, since it's the month of Syawal and we owe our family members a BBQ on the "new" patio, the date chosen was (to nobody's surprise) 16 September 2011! It was going to be a long weekend and the date just seemed right.

As per last year when I surprised Mr Ababe with the Elmo and Cookie Monsters' cupcakes (which of course he was not surprised at all!), this year I got him a rainbow cake! Loved the cake for the colours. Wished I could decorate a table with all the colours of the rainbow but then I would have spoilt the surprise.. even though I know that he always suspects I would plan something..

Nonetheless, it was a fun day, we started with a tahlil for our beloved family members who have left us, we prayed for those who are still around us and we hope that Allah would bestow upon us all the Goodness and Happiness that we all cherish for..

Mr Ababe was BBQ Man Number 1 as usual, so I waited until he had rested and then came out with the cake... The kids sang Happy Birthday twice, loudly!

A very tiring weekend but I hope Mr Ababe enjoyed his birthday and his cake..

Post Raya (Syawal 1432H / September 2011)



Ramadhan 1432H has just passed and we are now in the Syawal mood aka Raya mood!

Mummy and Daddy are so proud that Ababe Jr almost completed a whole month of fasting. Unfortunately on the last day (29 Ramadhan 1432H) he started coughing and had to take his medicines. That night we took him to the hospital for nebulizer treatment as we would be travelling the next few days for Raya! So for this year he managed to fast 28 days out of the 29 days.



Last year Ramadhan 1431H was the first year he started to learn to fast and he managed to fast for 10 days! I thought that was awesome because I remembered that I did not start to fast THAT early. Your Atok Man would be so proud of you my little hero.

This year for Raya we actually travelled extensively! First day we travelled all the way across the causeway to Singapore to celebrate Raya with Mr Ababe’s mom, grandma and relatives. We spent the night at Amansari Residence in Masai which was very nice and comfortable.

Second day we travelled all the way to the East Coast (Terengganu!) and celebrated with my big, fat Malaysian relatives. We visited relatives in Kuala Terengganu, Dungun, Kemaman and Kuantan. What a holiday!

The one week holiday I had as usual seemed too short. One month of Syawal will soon come to an end and we hope and we pray that we will get to see another Ramadhan and to celebrate another Syawal.

Upon the ending of Syawal, it will be 1 Zulkaedah 1432H (29 September 2011) and Ababe Jr will be 7 years old (according to the Islamic Calendar)!

A tribute to my Nek Lang [Asmah binti Salim ~ 15 May 1936 - 20 August 2011]

Saturday, 20 August 2011/20 Ramadhan 1432H

Late Saturday night after a full iftar at Delicious, Bangsar Village II with Hani, Rizal, Nizam and family, Mak received a call saying that Nek Lang has just passed away... Innalillahiwainnailahirojiun...

That night my Angah's family was with us. It was the final weekend before they all leave for Terengganu to celebrate 1 Syawal 1432H and they have to come to visit Angah and Nenek's graves.

So it was a sombre Sunday morning with almost all my relatives being there! There were so many people. A show of how much she was loved.

It made me remember the day Arwah Bapak received a phone call saying that Tok Lang has just passed away. I remembered that I was still young, it was during raya, we were in Terengganu and I remembered seeing Arwah Bapak crying. Both my parents love my Tok Lang and Nek Lang. It's a wonder that they both passed on during the holy months of Ramadhan and Syawal.

Mak had made plans to celebrate Raya with Nek Lang this year. I guess it was just not meant to be. Syawal is almost upon us and as usual my annual doa for this Ramadhan would be let it not be my last..

To my Nek Lang. We will miss you deeply. I am glad Fa'ie had the opportunity to remember you and his Nyang. May you rest in peace, Insyallah.

Ababe Jr graduated to the Level 2 swimming class! Good job lurve. He looks more confident now but he still has not perfected his freestyle yet.. But mummy and daddy's still happy and very proud... (full of glee)

1 Ramadhan 1432







1 Aug 2011 = 1 Ramadhan 1432

1 Ramadhan comes again and this time Ababe Jr will start fasting from Day 1. That means unless he goes to boarding school, mommie and daddy will now have to start waking up early for Sahur.. So today my day starts at 4.50am..

Last night Ababe Jr heard that Nenek's going for terawih. When he found out that nenek's doing 21 rakaats, he was like wowwww. Then ok follow chu as chu's doing 8.. Was about to change from pyjamas to baju melayu when he asked, what happens if he gets sleepy? Told him he can sleep at the side. Then he asked where would he put his psp?

No you can't bring your psp. You're going to pray..

"Oh then tak jadilah ikut.."

Immediately told chu and daddy he is not going.. And by 9pm he was fast asleep...

Ababe Jr's report card day at his Agama School. As the school only informed the day before both Mr Ababe and I couldn't go. So nenek went.

Alhamdullilllah! Despite only going 3 times a week, he got number 3 out of 7 students (ha ha)..

Mr Ababe and I are proud of our little boy and he knows he has to work hard to maintain his results..

Land beneath the winds..

A beautiful name for a beautiful, laid back quiet state..

A wonderful trip which we thoroughly enjoyed.. KK Town, Ranau, Poring, Kundasang, Kudat and the list goes on..

The serene and majestic Mountain, the blooming rafflesia, the underwater life, the freshness of the seafood..

We didn't get to conquer the shy Kinabalu Peak this trip.. Maybe next time we'll make it a point to reach the top and touch the clouds..

Report Card Day

24 June 2011 - Report Card Day! Requested for time off instead of taking leave as I'm left with just 5 days for the rest of the year. My bff was there since 2.30pm and have been queuing up.. By the time I reached school with Mr Ababe, my bff was still there and there were about 6 parents still waiting in line.. Harrumph! But at least I didn't come earlier..

It was about 5.40 when we at last met the teacher. As the results for the class were awesome, T had posted the list at the door.. Thank God Ababe Jr got number 11 with a percentage of 96.25! Totally magnifiso!

So proud of him. T only had praises for him.. Alhamdullillah..

Ababe Jr's first Walk

On 18 June 2011, I signed up for the Glamwalk "Against child sex trafficking" around Pavilion with sister, cousins and friends.

Both Mr Ababe and Ababe Jr came along to give moral support (ahaks!) plus it was Father's Day weekend..

When Ababe Jr saw all the hoopla he was excited and wanted to walk with me. Thank God it was only a 2km walk and he did fine! He even enjoyed it.

Maybe next time if there is a 3km fun run I'll bring him along just for the fun of it...

Ababe Jr's first exams (cont.)

Ababe Jr got the remainder of his results... Hmmm... 97 for Mathematics, fine, 92 for English (horror) and 84 for Arab (yeay!!). So basically he got As for everything right?? Good job baby! Mummy's proud of you.. Now he's sitting for his Agama School tests. Let's see how that goes...

This Friday 24 June 2011 is his first Parents Teachers' Day at school and I think I'll be making some time for that..

My mid year resolution for 2011

Decided that I should write my blog whilst I'm on the lrt to or back from work.. Rather than daydream.. Which of course I prefer.. But there's also that book in my bag which I'm supposed to finish.. It's okay, at least once a day or a few days once.. Just to get my creative juice running (if there was any in the first place)..

So this is sort of my mid year resolution for 2011.. Let's see how it goes..

Ababe Jr's first exams

Ababe Jr had his first exams and he wasn't THAT interested to study especially for Agama and Arab. Nonetheless he asked for a red watch if he gets 100 for his Bahasa Melayu paper!! Such confidence!

He got 95.5! Ha ha but he did get 100 for his Science.. Cool. He got 95 for Agama (which he didn't study and 80 for Art! I must say I'm ok with his results eventhough both Mr Ababe and I got 100 for all subjects when we were in Standard 1.

Now it's school hols let's wait for the rest of his results... Especially Arab..
